Google Silently Links Phone Numbers Across All Signed-In Accounts on Android
Google automatically links phone numbers across all accounts signed in on an Android device, Android Authority reports.
Android Authority reported that the mechanism links the active phone number across all Google accounts signed in on the same phone. That includes secondary profiles, work accounts and throwaway handles, according to the documentation. Users are not asked for confirmation when the association occurs.
A recent Reddit thread cited by Android Authority showed users receiving confirmation emails from 'noreply-phone-verification@google.com' stating that their phone number had been verified. The messages arrived unexpectedly, the report said, prompting more Android users to discover the automatic linking. Android Authority described the background mechanism as causing discussion among users.
Users who want to stop future automatic verification can turn off 'Verify phone numbers automatically' in the Google settings page on their Android device. The setting is separate from any numbers that have already been linked. According to Android Authority, previously linked numbers must be manually removed from the Personal Info page of each Google account.
The documentation update between August and October 2025 made the opt-out behavior explicit, Android Authority reported. The report did not include a public response from Google. The affected accounts can include the primary account on the device as well as secondary, work and alternative accounts signed in on the same phone.
