Google Teases Fitbit Edge Launch for October 12
Google has teased the Fitbit Edge, a new screen-equipped fitness tracker, and pointed to news on October 12. Leaks suggest an always-on OLED display, GPS, health sensors and a roughly $180 price.
In a post on X, Google published a picture that appears to show the side of the fitness tracker, The Verge reported. The caption read, "Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26." The Verge reported that the Fitbit Edge will launch on October 12. Android Authority reported that Google is officially sharing early Edge imagery while teasing news for Monday.
The teaser follows weeks of leaks. According to The Verge, details shared by Dealabs and Android Headlines suggest the device may have a 1.34-inch always-on OLED touchscreen, built-in GPS, and several sensors, including an accelerometer, barometer, altimeter, and gyroscope. It may also include optical sensors for measuring heart rate and blood oxygen saturation, as well as electrical sensors for capturing ECGs.
The Verge, citing Dealabs, reported that the tracker may notify wearers about potential atrial fibrillation and irregular heart rhythms. The Fitbit Edge is rumored to have a replaceable lithium-ion battery with up to seven days of battery life. Rumors suggest it could cost around $180 in the United States when it launches next week.
Android Authority reported that earlier leaks have revealed details about the Fitbit Edge, including color options, connectivity, and battery life. The device is described as an option for users who find screenless trackers too minimalist but do not need the complexity and power trade-offs of a full smartwatch.
Google has been overhauling its Fitbit tracker lineup. Android Authority reported that the process started with the screenless Fitbit Air earlier this year. The Fitbit Edge would be the next model with a small screen, according to leaks.
Google has not announced full specifications or pricing. The company's teaser only confirmed that it will share more information on October 12. The Verge reported that the launch date is October 12. If the leaked pricing is accurate, the Fitbit Edge would be priced at about $180 in the U.S.
