Google to End Free LTE Safety Signal Access on Pixel Watch 2 and 3

Google will end free LTE Safety Signal on Pixel Watch 2 and 3 after December 12, requiring a mobile plan for safety features.

Safety Signal had allowed those features to operate through cellular networks without a carrier plan. The connectivity was included as part of a Google Health Premium subscription, the report said. After the December 12 cutoff, users who want to keep using Safety Signal on LTE will need to pay for a mobile plan.

Google said existing users with free access will be notified through notifications and an email. The Safety Signal features will remain available without a mobile plan during a 30-day transition period that starts when the email is sent. Access ends after the mid-December cutoff.

The emergency features covered by Safety Signal will continue to work on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 without a mobile plan after the change, but only while the watch is connected to Wi-Fi or paired to a smartphone over Bluetooth.
