Google Unveils Gemini 4 Argon, Cybersecurity-Focused Frontier Model, in September AI Roundup
Google unveiled Gemini 4 Argon, a frontier model for cybersecurity, plus Gemini 3.8 Flash and other AI updates in September.
Gemini 4 Argon is currently rolling out to trusted cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program, Google said. The model is built for heavy-duty workloads such as coding, cybersecurity defense, financial research, legal drafting, and autonomous cybersecurity patching. Google is gathering feedback from early testers to iterate on guardrails before expanding availability to developers, enterprises, and consumers.
Also in September, Google launched Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber. Gemini 3.8 Flash delivers the company's best reasoning and coding performance yet at the same speed and low cost as 3.7 Flash, with substantial gains in long-horizon software engineering, multi-step problem solving, and agentic workflows. Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber provides frontier-grade autonomous vulnerability discovery and automated code patching, available to trusted organizations through the Fairwind Program.
Google introduced two audio models: Gemini 3.8 Live for everyday conversation and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking for multi-step reasoning without lag. Both are available to developers in Google AI Studio and the Gemini API, and to users across Search Live, Gemini Live, and Google Workspace, where voice can be used in Gmail, Docs, and Keep.
The company also launched Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS, its most expressive text-to-speech models yet. They allow users to generate custom voices and direct scene dialogue from simple text prompts, rolling out across products including Gemini Notebook and Google Vids.
New Connected Apps in Gemini bring tools like Airtable, Linear, monday.com, PandaDoc, Adobe, Picsart, Squarespace, Webflow, Peloton, SeatGeek, and Experian directly into Gemini, allowing users to tackle tasks in one place after selecting apps in settings.
Lyria 3.5, Google's most expressive music generation model, is now available globally in Gemini and across Google AI Studio, Google Flow Music, and Google Vids, enabling richer arrangements and coherent songs from text prompts or images.
Gemini Notebook received new study tools, including interactive coursework tools, animated video summaries, custom flashcards, versatile quiz formats, and 60-second Short Video Overviews in more than 80 languages. Eligible college students can also claim a free 12-month Google AI student plan with higher usage limits.
Beyond daily tools, Google marked scientific milestones by mapping human DNA in AlphaGenome Atlas, tracking global methane from space, and launching Project Suncatcher to test machine learning hardware in orbit. Googlebook became available for pre-order, and the Gemini app arrived on Windows. Fast Company recognized Google's teams as the 2026 Design Company of the Year for their work on AI interfaces.
