Google Wallet adds NFC support for physical transit cards; Play Store gets UI tweaks

Google Play Services v26.35 lets Android users add physical transit cards and balances to Google Wallet via NFC, and Play Store v53.1 brings UI improvements.

The new capability allows Android phones with NFC chips to tap and access public transport without a physical card. The same update also introduces an improved "Add a card" success screen in Google Wallet. Because the feature relies on NFC, phones that lack an NFC chip cannot use it to add transit cards, the report said.

The report also detailed version 53.1 of the Google Play Store. In the "Similar Apps" section of app detail pages, a short description highlighting a key feature will now appear for recommended apps. Users browsing recommendations can see which of their devices already have an app installed, and a new navigation bar lets them explore interests directly on Play home pages.

Users can update to the latest Google system services by going to Settings > Google Settings > All Services > Privacy and Security > System Services, or by enabling automatic updates.
