Google Wallet added package tracking, TSA Touchless ID, child allowances, digital IDs and NFC transit transfers in 2026.

ZDNet reported on Sept. 24 that Google Wallet received a major home screen and interface redesign this year. The report also said, citing Android Authority, that the app is reportedly coming to iOS soon.

In June, Google rolled out the ability to view online orders and track packages in Wallet, according to ZDNet. Users must have package tracking enabled in Gmail. Once that setting is on, Wallet can show detailed receipts, tracking numbers and shipping status.

Also in June, Google announced a partnership with the Transportation Security Administration that made Wallet the first digital wallet compatible with the PreCheck Touchless ID program, ZDNet reported. At 65 US airports, travelers with TSA PreCheck can show their phone instead of a physical ID. The system compares a live image from the camera at the checkpoint with the saved digital ID. Users need to set up an ID pass and save their boarding pass in Wallet.

In August 2026, Google Wallet added an allowance feature that lets users send money to a child's account on a regular basis or whenever needed. The child can then use a phone to tap to pay. ZDNet said the feature is aimed at users who do not want a child to carry a physical card or cash that could be lost, and the funds cannot be used online at all. A ZDNet writer tested the feature with his son and said the child preferred it to a card.

Google Wallet's driver's license and ID support expanded in 2026 to 11 states: Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Ohio, according to ZDNet. North Carolina and several other states are expected to add the capability as early as spring 2027. The digital ID is not a complete replacement for a physical card, but it can be used for age verification at participating retailers and in select apps.

A September update added the ability to transfer physical transit cards and their balances to Google Wallet through NFC. Before the update, users had to manually type all the information to transfer a card, ZDNet reported.
