Googlebook Laptop Pre-Orders Open September 21, Google Tells Users

Google's new Android-based Googlebook laptops will take pre-orders from September 21 at 9 a.m. ET, with models due from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo.

Google announced the laptop brand in May and has since said relatively little officially about what to expect from it. The Googlebooks run a version of ChromeOS that is based on Android, with Gemini Intelligence at the heart of the operating system. Models are on the way from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo, all of which have previously built Chromebooks.

Among the AI-powered features Google has described is one called Magic Pointer. Wiggling the cursor turns it into the Magic Pointer, and when a user aims it at something on the screen, the Googlebook offers contextual suggestions for actions that can be taken.

Users will also be able to generate custom widgets. The laptops carry a "glowbar" on the lid and are designed for deep integration with Android phones.

Google has not publicly detailed pricing, hardware configurations or the full list of launch models. The pre-order date is the first firm timing the company has given for the line since it introduced the Googlebook name in May.
