Googlebook Viewer App Appears on Play Store as an All-in-One Media Editor

Google has published the Viewer app for its Googlebook desktop platform on the Play Store, giving an early look at the media software headed to the first devices shipping this Sunday. The app handles images, video, audio and PDFs in one place.

The app is built to view and edit pictures, videos, audio files and PDFs in one place. Although it officially supports only Googlebooks, Android Authority sideloaded it onto an Android tablet and reported that it behaved as intended.

On first launch, users see a welcome screen describing the app's functions along with a prompt to enable timely suggestions with AI. According to Android Authority, the AI can locate a date inside a user's content and offer to add it to Google Calendar, and it can surface similar prompts for directions through Google Maps.

The image tools include Annotate, Text and Resize, alongside crop and rotate functions, all reachable from a dedicated toolbar on the main editing screen. The PDF viewer and editor can add text, annotations and signatures, and a selection tool lets users freely move or modify text and annotations they have inserted. As with standard PDF software, page previews sit on the left side of the screen.

Video and audio playback are also included. In Android Authority's testing both worked as described, and the video player carries an Edit in Photos button in the top right corner.

The app is not designed for slab-style Android smartphones, though Android Authority was able to sideload it and run it on one. Some parts of the interface may be unreachable because of display-size limits, and the software is better suited to larger screens such as tablets and foldables.

The first Googlebooks went up for pre-order last month and will start shipping this Sunday. Several apps for the desktop platform have arrived on the Play Store in recent months, including a Desktop Camera app and a text-editing tool that Android Authority previously examined ahead of the hardware's release.
