GTA 6 demo scam delivers malware to gamers
A malicious campaign uses fake GTA 6 demos to install info-stealing malware on PCs. Rockstar has released no demo, and players are urged to verify sites before downloading.
Malwarebytes analysis shows the malware can attempt to find saved passwords and login details, session cookies, browsing and download history, saved browser profile data such as autofills, and FTP client credentials. The attackers have set up phony sites that imitate Rockstar's promos and branding, capitalizing on the excitement following today's trailer.
Rockstar has not released any playable demo or early access, and recent leaks contained only videos and screenshots, not a playable build. Therefore, any site offering a GTA 6 demo is likely a scam. Engadget advises gamers to double-check website legitimacy before downloading files or entering passwords, and to be wary if the file size seems too small for a AAA game.
