GTA 6 Extended Look: 26 Minutes of New Gameplay, Six-Star Wanted System, and More Revealed

Set in Leonida, a fictional version of Florida, GTA 6 follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, a Bonnie and Clyde-style duo who stumble into a statewide conspiracy after a botched bank heist. The map includes Vice City, the Leonida Keys, swamplands, a national park, and a seaside port. Players control both Jason and Lucia at different points, marking the series' first non-optional female protagonist.

The extended look opened with Jason and Lucia entering a rundown apartment complex to pick up a package, where detailed NPCs and environmental textures were on display. The gameplay seamlessly shifts into cinematics and back, as seen when a police raid interrupts the pickup and the duo fights through the building before escaping through an old lady's apartment window.

A montage showed Jason and Lucia at home, with Lucia's hairstyle changing to indicate time passing. They then rob convenience stores, steal cars, and take on dangerous jobs from old contacts. One scene features Lucia in a leather jacket with a skeleton stitched into the back, showcasing the game's fabric and lighting detail.

During a police chase, Jason shoots an automatic rifle out the back window while Lucia drives, and the HUD clearly shows six stars in the upper-right corner, confirming a return to the classic maximum wanted level, one star higher than GTA 5's five-star system. The pair eventually torch the car and escape in a van.

New details from the trailer include a revamped combat system with quick time events, as seen when Lucia fights an enemy and the player chooses between two on-screen options. Jason can also activate a focus meter that slows down time and highlights enemy weak zones in red and yellow. The weapon handling looks smoother than GTA 5's, with characters able to swap weapons mid-fight.

Players can participate in races on an actual track, drive fanboats, jetskis, and canoes, and go base-jumping off skyscrapers. Environmental destruction during chases lets players shoot out tires, causing dynamic crashes. The trailer also showed a range of missions, including protecting clients at a corporate gala, where the perspective switches between Jason and Lucia.

One of the most anticipated features was confirmed: players can pet a dog in the apartment complex. The HUD is cleaner and faster to access, with switching between Lucia and Jason as quick as pressing a button. Disguises and new identities will be part of story missions, and Lucia appears with multiple hairstyles, suggesting a deeper customization mechanic.
