HomePad Setup Leak Points to Home App and Photo Face Feature Shared With iPhone Duo
A leaker says the HomePad setup will run in the Home app and share Photo Face with the iPhone Duo. The hub is expected on October 13.
The shared feature is Photo Face, one of the StandBy screen options. The leaker, identified as pdfu, says Photo Face will also be available for the HomePad. During setup, the device pulls in a few high-resolution photos that users can select immediately while their full photo library downloads from iCloud.
The report ties the HomePad setup leak to earlier work by the same leaker. pdfu previously shared five unannounced StandBy views for the iPhone Duo discovered in the Xcode simulator for the device. Those views were Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade and Snoopy. The earlier finding concerned the iPhone Duo, while the new one concerns the HomePad.
StandBy mode, as described in the report, offers options for turning an iPhone into a useful data screen while it is charging. One of those options is Photo Face, the feature now linked to the HomePad. The report does not describe the other setup steps for the HomePad or list additional features.
The HomePad is expected to launch on October 13 with a design based on the iMac G4, according to the report. The report also refers to the device as Apple's Smart Home Hub. It does not include pricing, availability or a full feature list. The setup details come from code references and screen grabs shared by a leaker rather than an official Apple announcement.
