Hongguo Short Drama Launches Rest and Sleep Reminder Videos
Hongguo Short Drama launched rest and sleep reminders, using 10-20 second character videos to prompt breaks.
Under the rest reminder, users who watch beyond a certain length of time may see the message “It’s time to take a break” at the top of the episode playback page. On the recommendation page, they may instead encounter a reminder video. The sleep reminder is aimed at users who are still watching late at night. Hongguo Short Drama said the reminder mechanism is gradually covering more users.
The reminder videos feature several virtual short-drama characters, including He Pingsheng, Jiang Yuechu, Zhao Yifan and Chen Zi’ang. Each video runs about 10 to 20 seconds, and the characters keep the personalities and speaking styles they have in the dramas. He Pingsheng, in ancient costume, says, “That’s all for today, dismissed,” and advises viewers that “cultivation is not a matter of one night” and “tomorrow has its own road to walk.” Jiang Yuechu’s tone is closer to coaxing someone to sleep, telling viewers to leave the rest of the excitement for later, put down what is in their hands, pull up the quilt and close their eyes. The modern-drama characters Zhao Yifan and Chen Zi’ang focus on eye protection; one says that although the drama is good, viewers should remember to protect their eyes, while the other suggests looking into the distance for a minute to relax the eyes. Some videos end with the characters saying they will watch dramas with “Guoguo.”
A person in charge at Hongguo Short Drama said the company hopes watching dramas on the platform will be relaxed and enjoyable, and that a regular schedule is the precondition for that enjoyment, adding that good content will remain available. The platform plans to add a “time management” function that will allow users to set the interval between rest reminders and the time for sleep reminders according to their own schedules. Hongguo Short Drama said it will also continue to improve the content and format of the reminders based on user feedback.
