HONOR launches Life S3 E Ink reader that attaches to the back of a phone
HONOR introduced the Life S3, a 3.68-inch E Ink reader that attaches magnetically to a phone and works standalone.
The Life S3 has a 3.68-inch ePaper touchscreen with 259ppi pixel density. It is packed into a 5.6mm-thick body and weighs 61g. It supports Wi-Fi 6 for book transfers and microSD cards up to 1TB, and it promises up to 30 hours of reading. The device has no front light, so users will need ambient light for nighttime reading.
HONOR is not the first phone brand to experiment with E Ink accessories. The YotaPhone put an ePaper screen directly on the back of a handset, while HUAWEI once offered an optional ePaper rear cover for the P8. More recently, gadgets such as the magnetic Flowtica Verso have turned the back of a phone into useful accessory space.
Android Authority said the S3 stands out because it is a standalone reader that can work with virtually any phone. That approach differs from devices that are tied to a specific handset or designed mainly as a phone accessory.
