Honor Launches Magic 9 Pro Max in China With Arri-Tuned Dual 200MP Cameras
Honor has launched the Magic 9 Pro Max in China, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 flagship with dual 200MP rear cameras calibrated under a partnership with professional film camera maker Arri.
The phone carries a dual 200-megapixel rear camera system powered by Honor's own imaging chip, the Honor Imaging Chip H1. Under the Arri collaboration, the main sensors are calibrated with Arri Image Science and the Arri LogC3 Curve in the Arri Wide Gamut 3 color space. According to TechRadar, that combination is intended to reproduce the look and shooting experience of a cinema camera as closely as possible when recording on the handset.
Users can select from 14 preset looks or 87 looks taken from the Arri look library, and can also shoot with Arri Cinema Mode, which first appeared on Honor's Robot Phone.
Beyond imaging, the Magic 9 Pro Max runs MagicOS 11, Honor's latest software, which includes a translucent "liquid glass" interface design. It is among the first phones to ship with Qualcomm's newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, described by TechRadar as billed as the world's fastest mobile CPU. The device pairs the chip with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.
The display is a 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED panel with a resolution of 1320 x 2868, covered by Honor's NanoCrystal Shield anti-scratch technology. TechRadar reported the screen can reach up to 10,000 nits of brightness. Honor rates the phone for IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust resistance, and it holds SGS 5-Star Scratch Resistance Certification.
In design, the phone shows similarities to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, though Honor says the Magic 9 Pro Max's camera array was inspired by the appearance of older cinema cameras. It is offered in three colors: Moss Green, Shadow Black and Glacier Silver. Pricing starts at 6,499 yuan, or roughly $970, £730 or AU$1,380.
The launch places the device in a market where Apple's iPhone has been widely used for film production in Hollywood, including on features such as 28 Years Later, which TechRadar cited as an example of the phone-as-camera trend Honor is now targeting.
Honor says the Magic 9 Pro Max will begin rolling out to other regions, and TechRadar said it would track updates on that rollout. Based on the release patterns of earlier models such as the Honor Magic 8 Pro and Honor Magic V6, the report said US availability is not expected.
