How to right-click on a MacBook: Control-click, two-finger tap and more
Engadget explains the default gestures and settings for right-clicking on a MacBook trackpad or Magic Mouse, including Control-click and two-finger tap.
The article notes that earlier macOS versions required users to enable right-click in settings before it could be used, but that has not been necessary for many years. The gestures work on both the built-in trackpad and the Magic Mouse. Engadget adds that with a rumored next-generation Magic Mouse on the horizon, it is a good time to revisit how the function works.
To customize right-click behavior on a mouse, the guide says to open System Settings on a MacBook, select Mouse in the left sidebar, then under Point & Click choose the Secondary click pop-up menu and decide whether a click on the left or right side of the mouse triggers the action.
For trackpad users, the process is similar: go to System Settings, select Trackpad, then under Point & Click open the Secondary click pop-up menu and choose among three options: Click or Tap with Two Fingers, Click in Bottom Right Corner, or Click in Bottom Left Corner.
