How to Verify Your TV Is Actually Playing in 4K

First, verify that your TV is indeed a 4K model. Go to Settings > About or Info to find the model name; if it lacks "4K" or "UHD", search for the model online or inspect the back panel.
Next, ensure that source devices such as game consoles or streaming sticks support 4K output. Check their settings to enable 4K, and use a modern HDMI cable capable of carrying 4K signals.
Streaming services often require premium subscriptions and specific settings. For example, Disney+ users must select "Automatic" under data usage to get up to 4K UHD. YouTube lets you set video quality manually, but not all videos are available in 4K.
Some providers have caveats. Live TV channels labeled "4K" may actually be upscaled lower-resolution content. Apple TV originals are mostly in 4K, but other content varies. Amazon Prime Video now places 4K behind its Ultra tier.
Even with all pieces in place, internet speed matters. A stable connection of at least 25Mbps is recommended for 4K streaming; Dolby Vision or multiple devices require more. If your network is slow, services may downgrade quality to prevent buffering.
