Hugging Face Unveils $400 Duck-Shaped Robot Microduck
Hugging Face unveils Microduck, a $400 duck-shaped bipedal robot designed to make AI more approachable.
Microduck comes with learned behaviors and can be controlled with a gamepad, the report said. Developers can teach it new skills through reinforcement learning, simulation, and open-source software, allowing customization beyond pre-programmed actions. Its articulated beak can pick up objects, adding a physical interactive element.
Android Authority noted that AI has earned an overwhelmingly negative perception over the last couple of years, and called Microduck one of the best attempts to make the technology more approachable. The robot’s low price and cute duck-like appearance are seen as ways to counter the stigma often attached to AI.
The report also highlighted the robot’s potential as an experimental platform, since its open-source software and simulation tools invite developers to expand its capabilities. The combination of a playful design and advanced robotics components reflects Hugging Face’s aim to present AI as interactive and user-friendly.
