IKEA and Xbox Release YXSTABY Gaming Furniture Range

IKEA and Xbox have launched the YXSTABY gaming furniture collection, a range that turns controller parts into seating and storage, and it goes on sale today in the US and UK.

The Swedish homeware company's range is described by TechRadar as quirky and playful while still addressing the practical demands of gaming furniture. Many of the pieces sit on castors so they can be wheeled into position during use and tucked away afterwards, and several include hidden pockets, slings and compartments intended to store gaming gear.

For buyers who prefer to display their equipment, the collection includes wall-mountable mirrored display boxes designed to show controllers from multiple angles. TechRadar singled out a storage unit that doubles as a side table, also mounted on castors, whose casing slides open to reveal gaming gear or closed to conceal it. A lap cushion and a decorative platter carry the Xbox controller's D-pad motif, while a thumbstick has been reproduced at larger scale as a stool.

TechRadar's James Pickard tried one of the thumbstick stools when the collection was unveiled at Gamescom. He said that although the seat is completely absurd, it is "more comfortable than it looks." TechRadar said designers drew on the Xbox controller when creating the range.

TechRadar published links to the full YXSTABY collection for US and UK shoppers alongside its report. No pricing, piece count or sales figures were included in the account, and neither IKEA nor Xbox was quoted on the collection's commercial performance.
