IKEA's Stengrönska alarm clock also charges phones and reads room temperature
IKEA's new Stengrönska alarm clock adds a wireless phone charger, temperature and humidity readings and three alarms. It is on sale only in Japan and China for now, priced at ¥4,999 in Japan.
The Stengrönska measures 17 cm by 16 cm by 3.6 cm (about 6.7 inches by 6.3 inches by 1.4 inches), a wide, short and flat shape that lets a phone rest on top of the unit and charge without a cable. The temperature and humidity readings are intended to let users keep track of the conditions in a bedroom. IKEA describes the device as an alternative to using a phone for alarms and for checking the time, saying it allows users to "reduce your reliance on your mobile phone," which the company links to "less screen time — more well-being!"
The display has an adjustable backlight and shows the time in either 24-hour or 12-hour format, along with the date and the day of the week. Users can set up to three alarms and configure the volume as needed. A snooze function is included, though TechRadar reports it appears to be fixed at nine minutes, meaning anyone who needs to rise at a precise time has to calculate how many nine-minute intervals remain.
On the back of the clock are toggles for the alarms and a volume dial, plus a USB-C port that can charge another device by cable while the top surface is used as a wireless charger.
Availability is the main limitation. TechRadar reported that the Stengrönska is on sale only in Japan and China for now, with a Japanese price of ¥4,999, or roughly $32, £24 or AU$45. TechRadar said it had asked IKEA about international availability and would update its article if the company responded. The product details cited in the report were first noted by Notebookcheck.
