Images published by WinFuture show what is reported to be Amazon's 12th-generation Kindle, with rounder corners, a power button moved to the top and four color options, plus a possible flush-screen version. TechRadar reports a new Kindle for Kids is also planned.

According to the images, the new Kindle has more rounded corners than the 2024 model, and the power button moves from the bottom edge to the top. Black, green, light blue and purple are said to be the planned color options. The report also suggests that two versions may ship, one with a recessed screen and one with a flush display.

TechRadar reported that Amazon is also preparing a new Kindle for Kids, with no major changes expected. That device is said to be essentially the same as the current one and to ship with a different cover.

Whether the 12th-generation Kindle will bring significant specification upgrades is not clear from the leak. In the TechRadar report, the writer said the device he wants is smaller than anything Amazon currently sells, citing the ViWoods AiPaper Reader and the smaller Xteink X4 Pro as compact e-readers he now uses more often than his Kindle Colorsoft. Loading books onto those small devices can be difficult, a problem a small Kindle would presumably not have, the report said.

Comments on a Reddit thread about the leak included "I was kind of hoping for a mini Kindle announcement" and "I thought I would want a bigger size… until I got a smaller one and practically never touched my Paperwhite again." Brands including Onyx Boox and Honor have started selling compact e-readers, though Amazon has announced no plans for one.
