Inceptio and Yutong Launch Largest-Capacity Autonomous Light Truck Z20

Chinese autonomous delivery firm Inceptio (Jiushi) and commercial vehicle giant Yutong unveiled Z20, an autonomous light truck with 4.2-tonne payload, the industry's largest production model.

The Z20 is designed for high-frequency shuttle transport inside factory areas, industrial parks, and large logistics warehousing centers. It can carry 6 to 8 standard pallets at once. Inceptio handles the vehicle's intelligent systems, including the full-stack L4 autonomous driving suite, perception, planning/control, and multi-vehicle dispatch. Yutong Light Truck provides chassis development, manufacturing, quality control, and vehicle consistency.

The truck comes with two battery options: a 43.47 kWh standard pack and a 77.28 kWh long-range pack. The long-range version offers up to 320 km of empty-load range and supports 400V fast charging, replenishing 30%-80% in about half an hour. A standard version can charge to 50% in the same time, suitable for single-shift operations within 120 km per day. The Z20 also supports overnight slow charging.

The vehicle offers three body configurations: side-opening doors for standard yard transport, a hydraulic tailgate for loading docks without fixed platforms, and a bare chassis for further modification. These designs are intended to address real industrial logistics flows, not just autonomous driving.

This is Inceptio's first entry into the 4-tonne autonomous light truck segment. The Z20 is built on Inceptio's "Zelos Inside" model, which provides a complete L4 mass-production and commercial operation solution, similar to Huawei's HI model in the passenger car sector. Inceptio says the system includes multi-sensor fusion, an autonomous driving domain controller, software, a vehicle management platform, mobile apps, and operational services.

Inceptio's move follows its extensive experience in RoboVan autonomous delivery vehicles. The company has deployed more than 25,000 vehicles across over 300 cities in 20 countries, with more than 170 million kilometers of real L4 operations. The shift to heavier vehicles responds to customer demands for moving goods within production processes, where routes are fixed and operations are frequent.

The Z20 is equipped with 4 LiDAR sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and surrounding collision sensors for 360-degree perception. Larger vehicles require earlier detection and more stable control, and Inceptio leverages its real-world operational data to address these challenges.

Inceptio is not alone in this direction. More autonomous driving companies are now targeting larger-capacity, higher-frequency commercial scenarios such as autonomous light trucks, trucks, port transport, and mining operations. The industry is moving from single-vehicle exploration to product systems built around specific industrial scenarios.
