Insta360 to Add Spatial Capture for 3D Scenes From Videos on Sept. 28
Insta360 will launch Spatial Capture in the U.S. on Sept. 28, letting X6, X5 and X4 Air users turn short videos into explorable 3D scenes using 3D Gaussian Splatting.
The feature will appear as a new tab in the Insta360 app. According to Android Authority, users do not need specialized capture equipment or complex workflows. To create a scene, a user records a video of the space to be captured. The video must be no longer than two minutes; longer recordings can be trimmed before processing. From the Spatial Capture tab, the user selects the footage and taps Generate. The footage is then sent to the cloud, where 3D Gaussian Splatting technology converts it into a 3D setting.
Insta360 warns that processing takes about one to two hours to complete. While it is underway, users can close the app and do other things. Once processing is finished, a notification tells the user the scene is ready. The user can then explore the scene with touch controls, a virtual joystick or the device's gyroscope. The report said users can also add effects and create custom camera paths. Finished scenes can be exported as a video or shared through an interactive link.
Spatial Capture is scheduled to roll out on Sept. 28. It will support the X6, X5 and X4 Air, but initially only in the U.S. Insta360 said users can generate up to four 3DGS scenes for free each month, according to Android Authority.
