Insta360 X6 preview: AI zero-edit ecosystem aims to make 360 cameras mainstream

The report notes that Insta360 launched its first 360-degree camera, the Nano, ten years ago. At the time, producing such content required specialized hardware, software and powerful computers. Now, the cameras offer 8K resolution and protective lens covers, and even mid-range smartphones can handle editing with help from AI and cloud services.

To further lower barriers, Insta360 introduced the APEV Model, a multimodal AI that can analyze raw footage. Its AI Director feature automatically creates a daily vlog from recorded highlights and sends the finished video to the user's phone when the camera is charging. Auto Edit 2.0 lets users select clips and have music and edits added automatically. The Insta360+ cloud service also integrates Google's Gemini through Moments Pro, allowing users to command video editing via text.

The Android Authority editor, who attended the event, wrote that while the X6 is impressive, he is more excited about the ecosystem Insta360 is building. He believes the combination of improved hardware, editing software, and AI will take 360-degree video mainstream and that such cameras could eventually replace many other cameras.
