iOS 27.2 Beta Extends FaceTime Dual Capture to Group Calls
Apple's iOS 27.2 beta expands FaceTime's Dual Capture feature, which shows front and rear camera views at once, to Group FaceTime calls, 9to5Mac reports.
Dual Capture arrived with iOS 27 and allows a caller's front and rear camera views to be active at the same time. Tapping the Flip button on the viewfinder shows the person on the other end both camera feeds simultaneously rather than switching between them.
The feature carries hardware and software requirements. Dual Capture needs an iPhone 17 or later, and the participants on the call must be running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 in order to see the two camera streams, according to the report.
In the initial iOS 27.0 release, Dual Capture was limited to one-on-one calls. The iOS 27.2 beta removes that restriction, so the dual camera view also works in Group FaceTime sessions. Users who do not join the beta can wait a few weeks for the public launch of iOS 27.2, 9to5Mac said.
FaceTime has been a central iPhone feature since it first shipped, but its core experience had changed little over the years. Dual Capture was described by 9to5Mac as the first substantial upgrade to the service in some time.
Apple has not given a public release date for iOS 27.2 beyond the beta period described in the report. The publication also asked readers who have tried Dual Capture on iOS 27 to describe how it performed.
