iOS 27.2 to Add Features Across Six Apple Apps Next Week

iOS 27.2, due next week, adds Messages suggestions, TV profiles, group FaceTime Dual Capture and more, 9to5Mac reports.

In Messages, iOS 27.2 introduces Suggested Actions, which appear underneath messages when relevant and can suggest creating a calendar event or reminder, adding to a note and other actions based on the message context. The feature was originally part of the iOS 27 beta this summer but did not make the public build, according to the report. It is now back in iOS 27.2 in a new and improved form, and users can fine-tune which types of suggestions they see.

The TV app gains profiles on iPhone and iPad with iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. The report says profiles have long been available in tvOS, but this is their first arrival on Apple's phone and tablet software. When users launch the TV app, they will see a new profile selection screen; the feature can be disabled if they do not want to see it again. The report notes it should be useful for users who share an iPhone with children.

FaceTime's Dual Capture feature, added in iOS 27, keeps the front and rear cameras active at the same time on compatible iPhones during a call. In iOS 27.2, the feature is available for Group FaceTime calls, according to 9to5Mac. Users can hit the flip camera button as usual, and on iPhone 17 and newer models both camera feeds will stream simultaneously by default, the report says.

For the Home app, iOS 27.2 adds two features for compatible smart locks, timed with what the report describes as Apple's new Home products push. 'Lock After Closing' is an automation setting that lets users choose how long after a door is closed it should lock automatically; previously, a duration could only be set based on the time since a door was unlocked, not closed. 'Door Left Open' lets users configure the Home app to notify them if a door has been left open for a certain period.

Apple Podcasts changes the Up Next queue on its Home tab. The queue is split into New Episodes and Continue Playing. New Episodes contains only the latest episodes from shows the user follows, while Continue Playing is a hub for episodes the user has started but not finished, according to the report.

The Games app receives smaller updates to its Home tab. The Home tab now shows recently downloaded games that have not yet been played; previously, it showed only games with some play activity, the report says. Apple says achievement progress and leaderboard scores have been updated in the Home tab to be easier to track.
