iOS 27.2 to Bring Group FaceTime Dual Capture, Podcasts Queue Redesign and TV App Profiles to iPhone
Apple's iOS 27.2 is set to arrive next week, adding Dual Capture for Group FaceTime, a split Apple Podcasts queue and the first user profiles in the iPhone TV app, according to 9to5Mac.
Dual Capture, introduced with iOS 27, lets compatible iPhone models display the front and rear camera views at the same time; tapping the Flip button switches on the back camera while the front camera stays active. In iOS 27 the feature works only in one-on-one calls. With iOS 27.2 it extends to Group FaceTime sessions, which the report described as one of the largest FaceTime upgrades in years.
In Apple Podcasts, the Up Next queue at the top of the app's Home tab is being split into two sections. New Episodes replaces Up Next and holds the latest releases from shows a user follows. Continue Playing, placed directly below it, collects all shows that are in progress. The 9to5Mac reporter wrote that Up Next had previously been cluttered and confusing, and said testing the change during the beta showed it to be a substantial improvement for tracking listening.
The Apple TV app gains user profiles on iPhone for the first time, a feature the report said moves over from tvOS. When the app is first opened in iOS 27.2, a profile selection screen appears; users can turn it off so it does not appear again. Profiles change which content the app displays and recommends based on the selected viewer. When a child's profile is active, the app shows only age-appropriate series and movies from Apple, which the report noted keeps a personal viewing queue clear and limits what children can see.
9to5Mac said in a related article that iOS 27.2 adds new features across six iPhone apps, without detailing the other three in the report on these changes.
