iOS 27 Adds Extra-Large Home Screen Widgets as Apple Invites Update Adds RSVP Tools
iOS 27 brings extra-large Home Screen widgets, and Apple Invites adds manual RSVP tracking with the new widget size.
The new widget size expands the previous maximum, called large, from a 4×4 grid of Home Screen slots to a 4×6 grid. That is generally the size of a full Home Screen page. According to 9to5Mac, extra-large widgets can show more content than earlier widgets, making them useful for packed calendars, long to-do lists, and viewing multiple notes at once. They can be used on any size iPhone, but 9to5Mac says they are intended for the extra-large screen of the iPhone Duo.
The Apple apps that now offer extra-large widgets include Calendar with List and Up Next; Home with Accessories; Music with Recently Played, Recommendations and Top Charts; News with Today and Topic; Notes with Folder and Quick Note; Photos with Album and Featured; Reminders with List; Shortcuts; Stocks with Watchlist; TV with Continue Watching; and Weather with Forecast. 9to5Mac said iOS 27 introduces more than 15 pre-installed widgets across 11 popular Apple apps.
Separately, Apple Invites received version 1.12.1 on the same day, according to 9to5Mac. The release notes say hosts can now more easily manually add guests to an event and mark their RSVP status, so the guest list stays accurate even when someone confirms outside the app. The Invites widget also now supports the extra-large size, giving hosts more options to display a countdown on the Home Screen. The update also contains bug fixes and performance improvements.
The Apple Invites update arrived two weeks after the app gained full-resolution photo sharing and new Image Playground capabilities, 9to5Mac reported.
