iOS 27 Adds Save Video Frame as Photo to Apple Photos
9to5Mac reports that iOS 27 will let Apple Photos users save a frame from a saved video as a new photo, offering higher resolution and better framing than screenshots.
The feature appears in the Photos app when a user is watching a video. Behind the three-dot icon in the top-right corner, the app offers a new menu item called "Save Video Frame as Photo," 9to5Mac reported. The frame currently displayed on screen is then saved as a new photo in the user's Photos library.
According to the report, the new option improves on the long-standing workaround of taking a screenshot. A screenshot of a video typically produces a lower-resolution image and a poorly cropped result. With the iOS 27 feature, the resolution is far better than what a screenshot offers, and no manual cropping is required because the iPhone handles the process.
The iPhone has long supported capturing a still frame while a user is actively recording a video, 9to5Mac noted. The absence of a similar option for videos that have already been saved had been a curious omission. In iOS 27, Apple will finally allow users to capture images from a saved video as well.
