iOS 27 adds separate alarm volume controls, so muted ringtones no longer make you miss your wake-up, Engadget says.
According to Engadget, users can set an independent alarm volume in Settings > Sounds & Haptics. In the Alarms & Timers section, the option “Match Ringtone Volume” should be toggled off; a new slider then appears for adjusting the volume of alarms and timers separately. After that, lowering the ringtone volume no longer affects how loudly an alarm will play.
iOS 27 also offers similar control over other system sounds. Notifications and keyboard clicks can be assigned a fixed volume independent of other audio, and users can choose whether the physical volume buttons affect ringtones or media playback, an option that predates iOS 27. Reversing these changes is possible by returning to the Sounds & Haptics menu and re-enabling the previous toggles.
The update includes other quality-of-life changes, according to Engadget, such as a Siri AI overhaul and improved readability for Apple’s Liquid Glass interface. Apple usually ships its major operating system releases in September alongside new devices, but has not announced an exact date for iOS 27. A public beta is available for users who do not want to wait; Engadget warned that beta software can be buggy and advised backing up the device before installing.
