iOS 27 Bug Can Temporarily Freeze iPhones, Force Restart Offers Fix

Engadget reports an iOS 27 bug can briefly freeze iPhones after a specific swipe sequence. A force restart is the recommended fix.

The bug is triggered by swiping down the Notification Center and the Control Center in quick succession, according to the report. After that, buttons and icons can appear stuck at the top of the screen, and the iPhone may stop registering swipes and taps. The freeze is temporary rather than a permanent failure, Engadget said, but it can leave the phone unusable until it is restarted.

Because the screen is frozen, the normal power options may not be accessible. Engadget's instructions say to press and quickly release the volume up button, then do the same with the volume down button. After that, the user should press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears, indicating that the phone is restarting. The report notes that the side button may need to be held for more than 10 seconds.

A force reboot is a standard first step when troubleshooting a device, the report said, because it clears RAM and closes programs that could be causing problems. Apple will likely release a fix for the iOS 27 bug in the future, according to Engadget. Until then, users who encounter the freeze can use the force-restart steps to recover their iPhones.
