iOS 27 Calendar gains natural language input, iCloud free/busy status, and larger widgets

The report says the natural language input, called Smart Event Details, allows users to type events in their own words, with Apple Intelligence filling in the title, time, location, and invitees as they type. The feature works for both events and reminders and can be turned off in Settings for users who prefer manual entry.

Design changes are present in the event details view and in the event creation and editing screens. Tapping an event now opens a card overlay with a fresh design, and event options have been reorganized and given icons. Event creation and editing also receive an updated look, with similar icon-based reorganization.

For iCloud calendars, iOS 27 finally adds the ability to show events as busy or free. According to 9to5Mac, this option had long been available for Google and other third-party calendars used inside Apple's app but was missing for iCloud calendars.

iOS 27 also introduces an extra-large widget size, and Calendar supports it with List and Up Next widgets. These larger widgets show more events and reminders at once. The report notes that extra-large widgets take up significant screen space but could be especially useful on the iPhone Ultra's larger display expected later this year.

Siri AI upgrades also affect Calendar. Siri gains onscreen awareness, understands personal context, and is more capable overall, making it a better tool for managing events and reminders. In addition, a new visual intelligence button in the event creation screen lets users scan an event flyer with the Camera app's Siri mode, and Siri then creates a new event with the details.
