iOS 27 Lets Apple Wallet Import Physical Passes and Membership Cards
Apple's iOS 27 adds the ability to import physical passes, membership cards and event tickets into Apple Wallet, so they can be shown as barcodes or QR codes from an iPhone or Apple Watch, 9to5Mac reports.
According to the description of the feature cited by the outlet, iPhone and Apple Watch users will be able to create and store passes in Apple Wallet from physical cards, such as loyalty or membership cards. With Siri mode in the Camera app, users point an iPhone at any physical card carrying a barcode, or take a screenshot of a digital one, and are prompted to save it to Apple Wallet. Passes can also be created and added directly from the Wallet app. Once added, they are ready to be presented as a barcode or QR code from the iPhone or Apple Watch.
Apple Wallet already stores credit cards, driver's licenses, transit cards, boarding passes, event tickets, car keys, home keys and hotel keys.
The 9to5Mac writer said digital passes have become far more common than they were when Apple Wallet first launched, but that they are not available for everything. The writer said some businesses and events still use physical passes exclusively, which makes it necessary to remember to carry them at the right time; storing those passes in the Wallet app, which the writer said is always at hand, removes that step. The report described the import option as another step toward the Wallet app being the only wallet a user needs.
