iOS 27 Upgrades Reminders With Apple Intelligence and a Rebuilt Metadata Editor

Apple's iOS 27 adds Apple Intelligence-powered natural-language reminder creation, a redesigned in-list metadata editor and more accurate grocery-list sorting in additional languages, according to 9to5Mac.

The most substantial addition is a feature the report calls "Describe your reminder." Reminders has offered limited natural-language support for new tasks for some time; in iOS 27, Apple Intelligence is used to make the function more accurate and to provide more options than before. As a user types out a new reminder, the keyboard row suggests adding detected information such as a due date. Apple's own description of the capability, quoted by 9to5Mac, reads: "Describe a New Reminder: Use your own words to describe a reminder and Apple Intelligence will help create it for you." The same functionality now extends to the reminder detail screen, allowing a user to write out a task and have it automatically adopt the relevant metadata mentioned in the text.

The metadata editor inside lists has also been reworked. In iOS 26, creating or editing a task surfaced five options above the keyboard row: Date, Location, Tag, Flag and Camera. iOS 27 moves all metadata options into a box surrounding the active reminder and widens the set to Date, Time, Urgent, Repeat, Location, Tag, Flag and Camera. The "i" icon still opens the full collection of metadata fields, but 9to5Mac says users should need it far less often under the new interface.

Grocery lists receive two changes. Apple says the app's auto-sorting feature now "sorts grocery list items more accurately," and that grocery list sorting expands to multiple languages. The report attributes the improvement to more powerful Foundation Models in iOS 27, saying the feature, which has existed for some time, will work better than before.

The report describes the three sets of changes as part of iOS 27 but does not state when the software update will be released. 9to5Mac published the details on September 29, 2026, and closed its account by inviting readers to comment on the new Reminders features.
