iPadOS 27.2 Brings Mac-Style Siri Popup for Selected Text
Apple’s iPadOS 27.2, due next week, adds a Mac-style Siri icon for selected text when a trackpad is connected, letting users hover to open an Ask Siri box, according to 9to5Mac.
In macOS 27 Golden Gate, selecting text in many situations makes a small Siri icon appear in the top-left corner of the selection. Hovering over the icon with a cursor expands it into an “Ask Siri” text box. That behavior was not available in iPadOS 27, but iPadOS 27.2 brings it to the iPad when a trackpad is attached, the report said.
The icon stays small and out of the way until the pointer hovers over it, at which point the Ask Siri box appears. If no trackpad is connected, selecting text still opens the full edit menu, where users can tap the Siri option. 9to5Mac described the trackpad version as smoother and more seamless.
iPadOS already offers several ways to invoke Siri: a “Siri” or “Hey Siri” voice prompt, pulling down from the top of the screen, the Siri option in the edit menu, the Siri app and CMD + Space to open Spotlight and ask Siri from there. The new selection popup adds another entry point borrowed from the Mac.
