iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max to get LTPO+ and smaller Dynamic Island next week, report says

Apple's iPhone 18 Pro models are rumored to get LTPO+ displays and a smaller Dynamic Island while keeping screen sizes.

The first upgrade involves LTPO+ display technology. LTPO has long powered the iPhone's Always-On and ProMotion features. Conventional LTPO applies oxide materials to switching thin-film transistors, while LTPO+ extends oxide usage to driving thin-film transistors as well, the report says. This enables finer current control for OLED light emission and allows displays to adjust based on surrounding conditions and user environments, improving battery efficiency.

According to the report, LTPO+ is expected to reduce screen flickering in low-light environments through more responsive adjustments and improve power efficiency. iPhone 18 Pro users should therefore get more consistent display performance at a lower battery cost.

The second change concerns the Dynamic Island. The report says the cutout on the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max is rumored to be about 35 percent smaller than on the iPhone 17 Pro, slightly expanding the usable screen area. The smaller size is hinted at by Siri's new design in iOS 27.

Apple introduced the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. Since then, software features related to the Dynamic Island and Live Activities have expanded, but the physical cutout has remained unchanged, according to the report. With the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, Apple is moving a step closer to a cutout-free display.
