iPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island Expands Dual Live Activity Information, 9to5Mac Reports

9to5Mac reports iPhone 18 Pro's smaller Dynamic Island and improved dual Live Activity mode let a second activity show more details.

Apple introduced Dynamic Island in 2022 with iPhone 14 Pro. Software support for Live Activities has expanded since then, but the hardware remained unchanged until iPhone 18 Pro. With the new model, Apple shrank the Dynamic Island for the first time by moving certain Face ID components under the display. That gives users slightly more usable screen space than previous iPhones, 9to5Mac reports.

Apple said earlier this month that three Live Activities can now run at once, up from a previous limit of two. According to 9to5Mac, however, the more useful change is what happens when only two Live Activities are running. Because there is more space, Apple uses it to show additional information for the second Live Activity.

The report gives one example: listening to media while running a timer. On iPhone 18 Pro, the Dynamic Island now shows the remaining time. Before, it only displayed a timer icon. 9to5Mac says the author does this often at the gym, and that the change has been more beneficial than the three-activity limit. The report adds that the author looks forward to seeing how apps make their Live Activities more useful for iPhone 18 Pro users.
