iPhone Duo First Batch Sells Out; Only Apple Website and Tmall Still Take Orders
Apple's first foldable iPhone sold out its first batch; only Apple's website and Tmall store still took orders, with deliveries listed into 2027.
The report said official flagship store entrances on several e-commerce platforms briefly lagged as the first inventory ran out. Leiphone's test at 9:30 p.m. found that only the Apple website and the Apple Tmall store could still take orders. The report did not name the other platforms whose stores had stopped accepting orders.
On Tmall, the earliest batch was listed to ship three days after the platform's Double 11 sales begin on Oct. 20, or Oct. 23, according to the report. Social media posts showing orders indicated that Apple's Tmall flagship store restocked six times within a short period. Shipping dates shown in those posts included Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Nov. 21, Nov. 28 and Dec. 5, among others. Apple's official website, meanwhile, listed delivery for the iPhone Duo as Jan. 23, 2027.
The iPhone Duo also appeared on second-hand trading platforms. Some sellers quoted prices nearly 10,000 yuan higher than the official price, according to Leiphone.
The scarcity prompted discussion on social media. Some users said they would rather wait for later restocking than pay a premium. Others joked that although the official website still accepted orders, the delivery schedule had reached next year, giving the foldable phone the feel of a futures contract. Some users said they planned to watch durability feedback from first buyers before deciding whether to purchase.
