iPhone Duo Launch Supply May Be Tighter Than Expected as Analyst Cuts Shipment Forecast on Hinge Constraints
Analyst Jeff Pu has cut his 2026 iPhone Duo shipment estimate to 6 million units from 7 million, pointing to hinge constraints rather than weak demand. Pre-orders open October 16, with first deliveries October 23.
The iPhone Duo, which Apple unveiled last week, will not arrive on the September timetable used for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Pre-orders open Friday, October 16, and the first deliveries are scheduled for October 23.
In a research note seen by 9to5Mac, Pu wrote that the reduced estimate reflects "hinge constraints" that are slowing production rather than a lack of demand. Earlier reports had already indicated that supply of the foldable could be very limited, and Pu's note adds further corroboration to that picture.
For scale, Pu estimates that 72 million iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units will ship by the end of the year, roughly twelve times the iPhone Duo projection.
The supply outlook sits alongside the device's price. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, the highest starting price Apple has ever set for an iPhone. Buyers hoping to obtain one at launch may therefore face difficulty on both availability and cost.
The shipment figure covers units Pu expects to ship in 2026, and the constraint he identifies concerns hinge manufacturing rather than any change in Apple's release schedule for the device.
