iPhone Duo Pre-Orders Sell Out as Accessory Makers Launch Cases

Apple’s iPhone Duo pre-orders opened today and were quickly pushed to late January 2027 shipping estimates, while Apple and third-party makers began selling new Duo cases.

9to5Mac reported that the iPhone Duo had a flawless product introduction, beginning with its September 9 unveiling. The rollout generated more excitement than any recent iPhone model the publication could recall, drawing interest not only from tech-focused early adopters and wealthy buyers but also from current iPhone users and some Android users. The pre-order sellout appeared to confirm that demand: shipping estimates for new orders were pushed back by more than three months, and 9to5Mac said the delay extended to late January 2027 within 30 minutes of pre-orders opening.

The same demand creates a problem for Apple. 9to5Mac described the launch as both a massive success and a missed opportunity because Apple could not deliver anywhere close to a supply-demand balance for an ultra-premium product. The report said Apple would ideally have enough supply to meet demand, or at least enough to satisfy initial demand within four to six weeks. Instead, customers face months-long waits, and Apple is sacrificing revenue by not being able to deliver the iPhone Duo in a reasonable timeframe.

For buyers who secured a Duo or are waiting for one, cases are already available. Apple released two purpose-built Duo cases in matching colorways, including a TechWoven model in a kickstand form factor with MagSafe support. 9to5Mac said the Apple cases were temporarily out of stock on Amazon. Pitaka’s iPhone Duo Edge Case is priced at $50, down from $60 at Amazon and a $100 listed MSRP, and uses a precision-woven texture, 3D coating, raised camera bezels, MagSafe, and precision-machined cutouts.

Spigen is offering several MagFit options, including the Ultra Hybrid Pro MagFit at $37, the Nano Pop MagFit at $27, and the Air Fit Pro MagFit at $31. SANDMARC’s iPhone Duo Pro Leather Case is $81 with 9to5Mac’s checkout code, down from $90, and combines full-grain leather with a patented aluminum mount for camera protection and connections to SANDMARC lenses and filters. Nomad’s Traditional Leather iPhone Duo Folio is $129 and uses full-grain Horween leather. Burton Goods sells the Heritage Leather Case for $71 and The Pocket Book Leather Case for $89, with an additional discount code available.

Other options include TORRAS’s Q3 Spin 360 Magnetic Stand Case at $70 and Q3 VegSkin Slim 360 Magnetic Stand Leather Case at $90; ESR’s Cyber Tough case with Flex Stand at $60, Classic Hybrid with Flex Stand at $40, and Classic Hybrid at $30; elago’s Magnetic Silicone Case at $20 and Magnetic Clear Case at $16; and OtterBox’s Defender Series Pro XT at $90 and Lumen Clear MagSafe Case at $76.

Editor's Summary

Apple’s iPhone Duo pre-orders sold out quickly, with new orders facing late January 2027 shipping estimates, according to 9to5Mac. The launch reflects strong demand but also supply constraints that could cost Apple revenue. Meanwhile, Apple and third-party brands have rolled out MagSafe-ready cases and leather, fabric, and protective options for the new foldable.
