iPhone Duo to Get Apple Pencil Support Next Week in iOS 27.2

iPhone Duo will gain Apple Pencil support in iOS 27.2 next week, ahead of its late-October arrival; only the USB-C Pencil works.

When Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo in September, it said Apple Pencil support was coming “later this year.” The Duo does not arrive until late October, and Apple has followed a pattern of releasing major software updates in December, which led to the general assumption that Duo owners would wait until December to use Apple Pencil.

Max Weinbach said on X that Apple Pencil support is included in the iOS 27.2 release candidate. The update is scheduled to launch next week. Customers who secured an iPhone Duo preorder for this Friday will need to wait only a few days for Pencil support, while other buyers will have the feature when their Duo arrives.

The iPhone Duo will work only with the Apple Pencil (USB-C) model. Apple Pencil Pro and the standard Apple Pencil are not compatible. Owners of those models would need to buy the USB-C version, which works with most iPads and the iPhone Duo; the report said it was on sale for $69 on Amazon.

For users receiving an iPhone Duo this Friday, the iOS 27.2 release candidate already provides Pencil support. For users on public software releases, iOS 27.2 is expected to launch on or around Monday, Oct. 26.
