iPhone Ultra to launch alongside new Pro phones, Gurman says
Apple's foldable iPhone Ultra is expected at September event, with new details on specs, MagSafe, multitasking, and launch timing from Mark Gurman.
In an interview with Tom's Guide published on Tuesday, Gurman said the iPhone Ultra will have a 5.5-inch cover display and a 7.8-inch inner display, powered by the latest Apple Pro chip and the latest Apple modem. He dismissed questions about MagSafe, saying, "MagSafe is there. Yeah, all indications that I've heard is that MagSafe is in for this foldable phone."
Regarding the foldable screen, Gurman said the crease is not entirely gone but is comparable to Samsung's newest foldables and might be even better due to a more durable hinge. He added that Apple's goal was to make the foldable as durable as any other iPhone. Multitasking will support iPad-like layouts, side-by-side apps, and drag-and-drop between on-screen apps.
On launch timing, Gurman said he would be very surprised if the foldable phone did not come out at the same time as the new Pro phones, or very close to it. He said he does not believe reports of delays to late October or November due to supply chain issues. He reiterated an expected starting price above $2,000.
