JAECOO and Momenta Complete No-Takeover Drive Through Arc de Triomphe Roundabout in Paris

JAECOO and Momenta said a JAECOO 7 test car running the Momenta R7 world model covered an 11.38 km Paris route, including the Arc de Triomphe roundabout, without driver takeover during the Paris Motor Show.

The test vehicle was a JAECOO 7 equipped with Momenta's R7 world model. On board were Hou Xiaohong, general manager of the Chery Europe (Germany) R&D Center, Peter Matkin, chief technology officer of the same center, and Rao Qing, Momenta's chief architect of global solutions.

The route began at La Défense, crossed the Seine, passed through Neuilly-sur-Seine and entered the Arc de Triomphe roundabout and the surrounding streets. It covered unmarked roads, twelve roundabout exits, the unconventional right-priority rule, merging traffic from multiple directions, construction detours, and interactions with pedestrians and cyclists.

Twelve avenues converge on the Arc de Triomphe roundabout, which has no clear lane markings. Unlike most roundabouts, vehicles circulating inside must yield to those entering from the right. Traffic interweaves and the available space shifts continuously, so the vehicle has to judge when to yield and when to proceed, and pick a path to its target exit. According to the report, the JAECOO 7 yielded and changed lanes as required, moving smoothly from entry to exit.

In the surrounding streets, the car steered, slowed and avoided obstacles smoothly during construction detours and narrow-road driving, and when sharing the road with pedestrians and cyclists.

The demonstration came as the JAECOO brand has been expanding in Europe. After entering the French market in April this year, its new-car registrations reached 2,589 units in September, with market share rising to 1.6 percent, according to the report. In the same month, the JAECOO 7 topped the overall model sales ranking in the United Kingdom.

OMODA & JAECOO currently operates R&D centers in Spain, France and Germany, with a UK R&D center scheduled to open in late autumn 2026, the company said, adding that it conducts localization work around European user demand. "We hope the JAECOO 7 not only accompanies users in exploring a broader life, but also brings a more natural and relaxed experience in daily driving," Hou Xiaohong said.

Momenta said its R7 world model learns physical rules, common sense and causality from large volumes of real driving data to improve environment understanding, prediction and planning, supporting interactive negotiation, lane selection and maneuvering in complex spaces. The company said years of European development and road testing have given it local data that it uses to adapt to local traffic rules, road environments and driving habits.

The JAECOO 7 fitted with the Momenta R7 world model is still in the testing and validation stage, according to the report, and has yet to be delivered to European customers. The two companies said they will continue refining the product through testing and user feedback.

Editor's Summary

JAECOO and Momenta reported an 11.38-kilometre no-takeover autonomous drive in Paris on October 12, including the Arc de Triomphe roundabout, using a JAECOO 7 test car with the Momenta R7 world model. The demonstration coincided with JAECOO's expansion in Europe, where it recorded 2,589 registrations in France in September. The vehicle remains in testing and validation and is not yet available to European customers.
