Jieyue Terminal Launches STEPX Neo, a Model-Native Agent Phone With Amoo

Jieyue Terminal has released STEPX Neo, a model-native agent phone, and Amoo, its on-device personal agent. According to Ifanr, the device emphasizes memory, planning and cross-app action over conventional flagship specs.

Ifanr says STEPX Neo is not a conventional all-round flagship. Its retro-futurist design uses a flat horizontal dual-camera module, a gray-black back with bright orange keys and a pixel logo, and a rear display for status and personalization. When Amoo runs long multi-step tasks in the background, the rear display shows animations. A dedicated AI button provides short-press access to a system-level intent panel and multimodal always-on sensing, while a long press enters on-device real-time voice duplex interaction.

The phone runs Step AOS, which Jieyue Terminal positions as model-native. Ifanr describes Jieyue Terminal as the only phone company on the market with a foundation-model background. Its stated approach is a model-software-hardware trinity: the Step 1+N model suite handles understanding and decisions, Step AOS handles scheduling and execution, and the AI-native terminal handles sensing and hosting. The report says the agent must cross memory, decision and action walls, and the interface reduces the traditional app-icon logic by giving more prominence to ongoing tasks and context intents.

Memory is handled through a unified semantic data layer and what the company calls a dual-domain, six-layer, three-step memory system, according to Ifanr. With memory sharing enabled, Amoo keeps communication preferences, memos and other information. In testing, it could search, view and organize photos and manage contacts and calendar events. A circle-screen question function lets a user press the AI key, circle an object on screen and ask about it. Ifanr says that when a dog photo was circled, Amoo identified the breed and gave advice on temperament, exercise needs and shedding. The report contrasts this with Samsung Galaxy S24's Circle to Search, saying STEPX Neo's endpoint is multimodal Q&A and follow-up tasks rather than a search results page.

For decisions, Step AOS uses device-cloud collaboration. Simple immediate operations go to the on-device Step Edge model, while complex reasoning and multi-step planning go to cloud models. In basic phone operations, Amoo can open or close apps, set alarms, check weather and location, make calls, send messages, and manage contacts and calendar events, according to Ifanr. For external information, it can search news, materials and real-time information, check stocks and funds through East Money, query product prices and recommendations through SMZDM, and handle reminders and recurring tasks. In a ticketing test, the request was to book a morning flight from Guangzhou to Beijing on Air China, switch to a high-speed rail business-class seat if Beijing had heavy rain that morning, and keep the total budget under 1,500 yuan. Amoo checked flights and prices, checked the weather, chose between the flight and rail, kept the budget and stopped before payment for confirmation. A recurring task for a 9 a.m. daily news briefing with five stories, short summaries and source links appeared the next morning.

For action, Step AOS's atomic capability engine turns functions into callable services. The report lists support for creating and editing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files; reading and writing Feishu documents, sheets, calendars, tasks and approvals; and handling Kingsoft documents. In one test, Amoo created a Word document with a research outline on 2026 foldable phone market trends and exported it as a PDF. For a Meituan milk tea order, it asked whether delivery should go to home or the office, knowing two frequent addresses, and required user confirmation for sensitive steps such as payment or data deletion. For ride-hailing, it was asked to call a fast car from the Ifanr office to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Terminal 2. Ifanr says Amoo has partnerships with nearly 100 companies and products including Alipay, Tencent, Ctrip, Didi, Jianying, Amap and Meituan, extending its service capabilities across local life, travel, office collaboration and content creation.

Beyond calling existing services, Amoo can generate images, HTML pages or mini tools when existing apps do not meet a need, according to Ifanr. Skills provide an extension path. Visible Skills include Feishu CLI, WeCom CLI, a Skill security assistant, English learning, web scraping, PDF-to-Markdown and Word conversion; Ifanr also cites a WeChat Reading Skill that can be configured on the phone. Developers can upload existing Skill packages to AmooStore, which the report says are checked for format and security before review. AmooStore also connects remote agents including Jieyue AI, Claude Code, Codex, Doubao, DeepSeek and WorkBuddy. Jieyue Terminal also introduced Step Studio, which it calls the first AI-terminal-native development tool. Users can describe needs in dialogue to build an App, Skill or Agent and push it to the phone for testing and use. In one test, a request for a fully automatic tech in-depth reporting editor-in-chief agent generated an Agent in about two minutes, with topic judgment, research, cross-validation and writing in its workflow, plus requirements to cite sources and separate facts from analysis. Connectors can add file management, location, gallery, calendar, messages and phone capabilities. The report did not include pricing, full specifications or rollout details.
