Kalshi Traders See 75% Odds of More Than 5,100 U.S. Data Centers Before 2027

Kalshi traders now see a 75% chance that more than 5,100 U.S. data centers will be planned or operating before 2027.

The contract is set to be resolved and verified by Data Center Map, which tracks planned and running data centers on its website. The site counts more than 4,700 operating and planned data centers in the U.S., according to the report.

Virginia leads among states with more than 670 planned and online facilities, followed by Texas with 537 and California with more than 200, Data Center Map found. Technology companies have been growing their data center footprint in states including Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

That buildout has faced backlash from communities and activists. They argue such projects would raise utility costs for locals and consume significant amounts of water.

Last month, Bloomberg reported, citing sources familiar with the matter, that Oracle sent its developer a force majeure notice tied to its New Mexico data center project. The notice was meant to protect Oracle from higher expenses if the project does not come online in 2028 as anticipated, according to the report.

Oracle's proposed data center also hit snags this summer after New Mexico regulators turned down applications for a gas pipeline project to fuel it, Bloomberg reported.

CNBC and Kalshi have a commercial relationship that includes customer acquisition and a minority investment.
