Korean Air tests UAM operations on island routes off Incheon

Korean Air said it tested urban air mobility operations on island routes off Incheon using a surrogate aircraft and its ACROSS traffic management system, with KT, Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

The demonstration was held Tuesday near the western port city of Incheon using a surrogate aircraft. Korean Air conducted the test with KT Corp., Hyundai Motor Co. and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co.

The carrier used its in-house Air Control & Routing Orchestrated Skyway System, or ACROSS, to manage flight operations and air traffic. It said the test examined the system's capabilities in an island environment.

Korean Air plans to complete the first phase of Incheon's UAM control system project in December. The project is part of the company's efforts to develop traffic management and flight operations systems for future air taxi services.

According to Yonhap News, which reported the airline's announcement, the test marked a move to apply UAM operations beyond population centers.
