Kuaishou Kling AI Core Researcher Wang Xintao Departs

According to Leiphone, Wang Xintao, a core technical researcher of Kuaishou's Kling AI, has left the company, raising uncertainty about the model's R&D pace amid fierce competition.

Wang Xintao received his bachelor's degree from Zhejiang University and his Ph.D. from the Multimedia Laboratory (MMLab) at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he studied under Tang Xiao'ou and others. He has long been engaged in research on image and video generation and is a lead author of open-source projects such as Real-ESRGAN and GFPGAN, giving him notable influence in the field of visual generation.

Before joining Kuaishou, Wang worked at Tencent AI Lab and ARC Lab. In 2024, he joined Kuaishou as a senior researcher in the Kling team, leading work on video content generation. He is considered one of the key drivers behind Kling's development from zero to one.

As of the report's publication, neither Kuaishou nor Wang Xintao has issued an official response to the personnel change. Kling is regarded as a benchmark for domestic video generation large models and is currently in a period of intense market competition, so the departure of a core technical leader is expected to bring uncertainty to the project's research and development pace.

Wang's next destination has also drawn attention. According to a person familiar with the matter, his next stop may be another major internet company, as reported by Leiphone.
