Leak: Android Auto May Soon Show Destination Photos and Gemini AI Summaries in Google Maps

The outlet said it enabled an unfinished interface inside Android Auto version 17.8. The redesigned destination card would let users scroll through photos of the place, an Overview section, contact details and other information collected about the destination, all without picking up the phone.

Android Authority cautioned that the interface it turned on is not finished, so Google could still change the design or abandon the feature before it reaches users. No release date, supported regions or eligible vehicles were mentioned, and the report did not include a screenshot or statement from Google confirming any plans.

The finding fits a pattern the outlet has tracked over recent months. It reported earlier that Android Auto could gain its own Quick Settings tiles, and a previous teardown of the app revealed work on letting drivers dismiss or snooze phone alarms from the car screen. Those efforts point in the same direction as the destination card: keeping common tasks on the vehicle display instead of sending drivers back to their phones.

The destination preview, if released, would extend Google's use of Gemini inside its mapping products, where AI-generated summaries of places already appear in some surfaces. On Android Auto, such text would compete for space with turn-by-turn guidance, media controls and messaging alerts that already occupy the screen.
