Leak Points to NFC 'Proximity Control' in Apple Home Accessories From LG

A new leak claims LG's rumored Apple Home accessories will use NFC so an iPhone held nearby shows device controls in the Dynamic Island, ahead of Apple's October 13 event.

The post states the feature is executed using the Matter protocol but appears to be specific to Apple Home. It follows a separate leak a day earlier showing a "tap to setup without power" pairing feature and other upcoming devices, according to The Verge, which reported the details.

Apple has scheduled a "Welcome home" event for October 13th, where the company could provide more information on products including a new smart home hub with a display, an updated HomePod Mini, and a new Apple TV.

According to pdfu, the tap-to-control capability has appeared in code since iOS 27.0. MacRumors' Aaron Perris separately spotted HomeKit code in an iOS 27.2 beta that pointed to smart home controls in the Dynamic Island. The two observations describe the same area of functionality but come from different sources, and neither Apple nor LG has confirmed that the accessories or the feature exist.
