Leaked Apple Code Points to Eighth-Gen iPad mini and New HomePod mini Colors
Leaked Apple code indicates an eighth-generation iPad mini may launch as soon as next month, alongside possible new HomePod mini colors, according to TechRadar.
The leaked images show a landscape front-facing camera, aligning the iPad mini with other iPad models, and a small groove cut out of the top of the display glass. That cutout is likely for a speaker, according to TechRadar. If released, the device would be the iPad mini 8, succeeding the iPad mini 7 that launched in October 2024.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the device could launch next month, matching the October scheduling used for several previous iPad mini models, TechRadar said. One expected upgrade is water resistance.
The new iPad mini would be the first to launch in the era of the iPhone Duo. A Redditor described it as the 'iPhone Duo: unfoldable edition,' TechRadar reported. The seventh-generation iPad mini has an 8.3-inch screen, while the iPhone Duo's main display measures a similar 7.6 inches. The two devices appear likely to coexist partly because of price: the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999, £1,999 or AU$3,499 with 256GB of storage, while the current iPad mini starts at $599, £599 or AU$949 with 128GB of storage.
Separately, the same Apple code reviewed by Perris revealed potential new colors for the HomePod mini 2: green, pink, blue, white and black. That would differ from the current range of yellow, orange, blue, white and midnight. An October launch is also likely for the HomePod mini update, according to TechRadar. The first HomePod mini was unveiled in October 2020.
