Leaked Gameplay Purports to Show Canceled Assassin's Creed Set in Ancient China

Leaked footage purportedly shows Assassin's Creed Destiny, a canceled China-set game reportedly developed by Ubisoft and Tencent.

The video showed the game's title and identified the setting as 206 BCE during the Qin Empire. In the gameplay footage, the playable character scales castle walls and performs stealth kills in the series' familiar style. Placeholder videos displayed different combat skills and weapons, including a weapon described as a deadly umbrella.

Engadget reported that the title was reportedly scrapped. Because the game was reportedly canceled, the footage may never move beyond the development stage. The report did not say when Destiny was canceled or how far development had progressed.

Ubisoft is still working on Assassin's Creed Jade, announced in 2022 as a mobile entry in the franchise set in ancient China. Ubisoft has revealed little about the project since then. A 2024 Reuters report said the game would be delayed until 2025. The developer still has not made an announcement about Jade, but a company executive recently told VGC that it would include co-op gameplay.

The leaked Destiny footage comes as Ubisoft's publicly confirmed China-set mobile game remains without further public details. Engadget said that if the reported Destiny elements survive, some could appear in the upcoming mobile game.
